A Pioneering Curriculum
Future Academies has undertaken a pioneering initiative to develop a knowledge-rich approach to curriculum design, initially inspired by the impact on attainment of E.D. Hirsch's Core Knowledge Curriculum. Our curriculum has attracted national attention: Future Academies’ sponsors, which founded The Curriculum Centre, have received funding from the Department for Education to share the benefits of our curriculum, its associated teacher-centred pedagogy and underlying principles, with other schools.
Several members of the team that led the development of our curriculum have served as advisors to the Department for Education on the reform of the National Curriculum, the review of teaching standards, and the Early Years Educator criteria.
Future Academies is also setting new standards in knowledge-led assessment. What distinguishes our approach is that we measure pupil progress not with generic levels, but by evaluating what pupils know and can do.
We are proud to represent the growing success of School-Centred Initial Teacher Training and the valuable contribution this has made to our profession. We know that highly knowledgeable and skilled teachers make the biggest impact on pupil outcomes and we are committed to continuously developing teachers’ subject knowledge and pedagogy. We maintain great links with our alumni, who keep us informed of their progress as they become the leaders of curriculum and pastoral education in their schools.
