What we are looking for

In order to apply for a place at Future Teacher Training, you must hold the minimum following qualifications and understand the personal specification and duties & expections.

  • Qualifications

    • A UK honours degree or a recognised international equivalent. For secondary programmes, your degree must be relevant to the subject you are planning to train to teach.
    • GCSE English language and mathematics (Grade C/4 or above)
    • For primary programmes a GCSE science (Grade C/4 or above)
    • Studied outside of the UK? Visit the National Academic Recognition Information Centre website to find out if your qualifications are equivalent to UK level. You’ll need to supply us with a ENIC Statement of Comparability prior to application
  • Personal specification

    • Excellent qualifications & subject knowledge
    • Impeccable communication skills
    • Organised, energetic & able to be self-directed
    • Interested in engaging in a range of extracurricular activities
    • Commited to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Duties & expectations

    • To teach, to an outstanding level, all years, abilities and qualifications
    • To deepen the scholarly nature of your subject and the policies & values of your school
    • To play a central role in your subject area
    • To make a vital contribution to the efficient running of your department
    • To enhance the quality of teaching and learning at your school and across the Trust

You will need

To support your preparation it is worth noting that within the application process via the DfE’s Apply service you will need to provide:

  1. Contact details
  2. All relevant qualifications (including all GCSEs, A Levels, and a breakdown of your degree topics)
  3. Personal statement (which should show a high level of attention to detail, and reflect your passion for your subject) *
  4. School / work experience (ensure you include all work experience, as any large gaps in your work history will need to be explained)
  5. Two references:
  • one professional - a current or most recent employer (who can comment on your character and suitability as a teacher)
  • one academic - a current or recent tutor (if you have not been to university in the last 5 years, you may prefer to use a second professional referee)

When composing your personal statement make reference to the person specification and expectations listed above, and ensure that you read it through thoroughly before submitting.
