Finance and Benefits

Tuition Fee Payments

The tuition fee for the 2021-22 academic year is £9,250. This is payable if you are on the tuition fee route.

If you are applying for a loan from the Student Loans Company, your tuition fees will be paid automatically to us and you will pay them back, according to a pre-determined schedule, once you are employed and earning over the minimum salary threshold.

If you are not applying for a tuition fee loan then you will need to pay your tuition fees directly to us. We ask for this in four instalments, making it easier for you to pay.

Government Bursaries

Most applicants applying for many of our secondary subjects through our fee-paying route are eligible for bursaries through the Department for Education. If your subject is eligible, and we offer you a place, you would receive a tax-free sum of money paid in ten monthly instalments throughout the year from October to July.

Click the link below to find the full list of bursaries on the Get into Teaching website and to read their terms and conditions.

Subject Scholarships

If you are successful in getting an offer from us, you may choose to apply for a subject scholarship from the appropriate awarding body. If you are offered a scholarship, you will get access to additional training resources to help you develop your subject knowledge, and you will get a higher rate of bursary (this will be paid instead of your bursary).

These competitive scholarships are only available in certain subjects and can be applied for after the offer stage:

  • chemistry: Royal Society of Chemistry
  • computing: BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT
  • maths: Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarships
  • physics: Institute of Physics scholarships

There is more information about these scholarships on the Get into Teaching website. Please follow the link below.

For all subjects, candidates applying through our tuition-fee routes through UCAS have the opportunity to apply for our Future Teach Scholarship. Future Teach Scholarships are awarded to candidates with exceptional subject knowledge, and strong academic qualifications. They can be awarded in any subject.

Candidates who are successful in securing a Future Teach Scholarship will receive a top-up of their government bursary up to £29,000 and will also have their £9,250 tuition fee paid for.

If you are interested in applying for the Future Teach Scholarship, early applications are encouraged.

Student Loans

If you are on our unsalaried tuition-fee route, you may be eligible for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of our tuition fees, which are £9,250. Applicants can apply for these loans through Student Finance England once they have secured a place on our programme.

If you are applying for a loan through the Student Loans Company, your tuition fees will be paid automatically to us. You will pay back the loan, according to a pre-determined schedule, once you are employed and earning over the minimum salary threshold.

More information on the tuition fee loan can be found below.

Depending on your personal financial circumstances, you may also be eligible for a maintenance loan to contribute towards your costs of living. This is means-tested and will be completely individualised to each applicant. This is paid termly at the start of each term by the Student Loans Company once your attendance on the programme has been confirmed by us.

A future career with Future Academies

We look to recruit teachers with depth of subject knowledge, intelligence, courage and energy. Career progression at Future Academies depends upon what you do and what you know rather than length of service.

We are keen to have our SCITT trainees stay on with us once you have finished your training year, dependent on vacancies.

All candidates who are offered a place on our course and are placed in one of our schools in Future Academies have the opportunity to register an interest in renting one of our rooms. Rooms in our accommodation are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
